You Did It To Me!

11 May 2010 Then the King will say, “I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me….[and] whenever you failed to do one of these things to someone who was being overlooked or ignored, that was me—you failed to do it to me.” ~Matthew 25:40,45 (The Message) ~
Each time we welcome a new child into AGC Baby Centre, I go through a myriad of emotions. I am amazed at how truly precious each little one is! I am awed at the gift of life and God’s creation! I am often surprised at the resiliency of the human body to overcome such huge physical obstacles. I am repeatedly thankful and so very humbled that we are somehow a part of what God is doing in their lives. The last few days have been especially full of emotion as we have welcomed four new babies since Friday!
A phone call from the police station in town brought us tiny one-week-old baby Ezra late on Friday evening. Yesterday we were phoned by the Children’s Office and told that several babies were waiting in the hospital for a safe place to stay. Today we came home with Christian (a chubby-cheeked, 2-month old cherub of a boy), Adam (a tiny 2-week-old bundle of joy), and Ezekial (a 2-month-old in need of some serious love and feeding). This brings our total to 40 babies—more than we have ever had at one time! Once again, we are a bit over capacity, but in consultation with the nurse and some caregivers, we really felt we could bring these little ones just by shifting a few almost-walkers to the toddler section.
With four babies coming in quickly and our number jumping up to 40, the emotions have been coming in a flood—and not just all the positive ones. All too often, I am shocked that such precious, gorgeous, priceless babies have been abandoned, ignored, overlooked, thrown away. And honestly, many times I find myself angry at people who could do that to tiny babies who are completely helpless and vulnerable—people who make choices that put these babies in risky, dangerous, and unimaginable situations. And then in my pride of thinking how much I have done unto God through these babies, He reminds me that I have no idea what has led anyone to do such an unthinkable thing as abandon their own child. Perhaps it is because they themselves have been “overlooked and ignored”—maybe by me and my failure to do anything for them—to the point that they simply don’t know any other way. What a gracious Father He is, to not overlook me, but to continue to teach and convict me through these experiences.
Today as you pray over all 40 lives at AGC Baby Centre, would you join me in praying over their families and parents as well? Pray that they may come to the redeeming knowledge of Jesus as their Savior and Lord, and in doing so, find peace and healing in the midst of a stormy past. And as we are overly full, please pray for God to bring new families to our babies in the perfect time to create space for any others who may soon be in need. To those of you who stand with us in prayer and finance, encouragement and ministry: THANK YOU for what you are doing to God through these precious lives!
Longing to do what He wants in each day,
Staci Keter
Director
