Letter from the Director - May 2010

7 May 2010 “They agreed that they were no more than foreigners and nomads here on earth. And obviously people who talk like that are looking forward to a country they can call their own. If they had meant the country they came from, they would have found a way to go back. But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland.” ~Hebrews 11:13-16 (NLT) ~
We learn so much from the lives of our babies at AGC Baby Centre. It seems like each day there is a new lesson to be learned about the Kingdom of God, a new chance to have the veil pulled back and to see things for how they really are, how they’re supposed to be. I’ve heard it said that the highest illustration of our relationship with Jesus is marriage. I personally think that if that’s true, then adoption comes in a very close second.
Last week we celebrated (and, yes, cried a little) with Esther, one of our big girls who went home with her new mommy and daddy! We also saw baby Teresia find a new home in a nearby town. Each time one of the babies goes for adoption it’s quite hard on the toddlers who are left behind. For a couple of days, they’ll ask, “What about me? When is my mommy coming?” I don’t think they can possibly know what it means to have a mom and dad, at least not fully understanding it. But they definitely know it’s a good thing. One of our staff said, “It’s like heaven for them.” Wow! What an eye opener! The way that these kids long for a home, that’s how I’m supposed to long for heaven. The way they look for a better place even though Baby Centre is good, even though they don’t fully understand what the other place will be—that’s the way I’m supposed to view life on earth versus my heavenly homeland. We are not of this world. The veil pulled back, and our vision a little bit clearer.
For the 36 children who remain with us now while they wait for “a better place,” we pray that God will bring them a home of their own in His perfect timing. In the mean time, we continue to be thankful for each moment we spend with them, for the lessons they teach us through their lives, for the way God uses them to pull back the veil and make our vision clearer. Pray that we as staff members do the same for them, that our lives show them something of the kingdom of God in a way that strengthens and encourages them. THANK YOU to those of you who partner with us to help each one find his or her true homeland!
Longing for that better place,
Staci Keter
Director
