28 April 2010 “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.” ~Jesus in Luke 18:16~
Last night I slept peacefully. When the police phoned us yesterday evening to say there was a baby in need, we said, “Let him come.” Baby Shadrack (approximately 7 months old) was brought by the police in the evening yesterday and has some pretty significant health issues as a result of his abandonment.
Last night I slept peacefully knowing that we had welcomed Shadrack in the name of Jesus. I slept peacefully knowing that even though we were already “full,” we didn’t stop him from coming but rather decided we could stretch ourselves just a bit. I slept peacefully knowing that Jesus is able to use AGC Baby Centre to help Shadrack find the healing, provision, and love that comes from Him. I slept peacefully knowing that even as I slept, there were lovely women of God caring for Shadrack the whole night through.
I know that 38 is more babies than we’re “supposed” to have. (Our capacity is technically 36.) But when I know that we are able to stretch, it’s hard for me to say “No,” especially to a child in serious need. By the end of the day, we are likely to be back at 37 babies, as we are trusting Jesus to finish what He has started for one of our babies to go home with her new family. Again, I’ll sleep peacefully, knowing that we’ll have room to stretch a bit more should the need arise and another baby is found in need today.
The need here is still great, and I know the day might soon come when, as the director, I’ll have the make the decision that we really are full and cannot stretch anymore. Should that day come, I’m not sure how peacefully I’ll sleep that night. For now, we take each day as it comes and trust Jesus to provide for us, for the babies who are here, and for the babies out there who still need love, care, and protection.
THANKFUL for those of you who stand with us to welcome little children,
Staci Keter
Director
